Students in fourth and fifth grades who need additional support in reading will be using the System 44 and Read 180 programs. System 44 is a phonics focused foundation program and is needed before Read 180.  Students are tested to see what program the fit in to.

Testing Dates:
 
The Reading Inventory (RI) provides a student with a Lexile.  The Lexile is a measure of what level of books a child can read.  This is tested 3 times a year for placement and growth.
The Phonics Inventory (PI) determines the decoding level a child is at. This is tested 3 times a year for placement and growth.
 
***Children with Lexiles below a 400L will be given the PI to determine what type of decoder they are. 
 
RI initial/entry test:  Beginning of each year in August.
PI initial/entry test: Beginning of each year in August.
 
The rest of the test is TBD.
 
4th-grade Year-end Proficiency is a Lexile of 740-940L
5th-grade Year-end Proficiency is a Lexile of 830-1010L

If students are absent please have them spend 20 to 30 minutes a day using their program software https://h100001864.education.scholastic.com/slms/studentaccess
 
The time spent is critical...no more or no less.
